Hossein Moiin, PhD

Executive Chairman

Dr. Hossein Moiin is the Executive Chairman of Autonomous Healthcare. Previously, he was the Chief Technology, Innovation, and Strategy Officer of Nokia.

Dr. Moiin received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara, CA in 1984, 1986, and 1992, respectively. Dr. Moiin has held several technical and management positions including Senior Architect at Sun Microsystems, Group Vice President for Technical Strategy at T- Mobile International, and Fellow and Lead Mobility Architect at British Telecom. Dr. Moiin has served as an active adviser and board member for several technology startups and has served as an investment advisor in leading venture firms.

Brett Malone, PhD

Chief Commercial Officer

Dr. Brett Malone is the Chief Commercial Officer at Autonomous Healthcare. He has over 20 years of experience in therapeutics, diagnostics, devices, synthetic biology, biomarkers, and novel platforms.

Dr. Malone has extensive experience in commercialization strategy, partner development with industry and managing complex alliances to secure funding, and international development across Asia and Europe. His accomplishments include:

Securing over $80M in Venture Capital for numerous projects
Technology licensing and commercialization
Strategic planning for new product initiatives
Business development and market planning

His prior experience includes President and CEO of antibiotics development biotech firm, Operations and Informatics leadership role for a synthetic biology startup, Partner in a biomarker diagnostics firm, Founder of a biomarker discovery service firm, and President of a defense software firm. Dr. Malone received the PhD degree in computational methods and engineering from Virginia Tech.

Kanwaljeet J. S. (“Sunny”) Anand, MD, DPhil

Professor of Pediatrics (Pediatric Critical Care), Stanford University Medical Center

Dr. Kanwaljeet J. S. (“Sunny”) Anand is a professor of pediatrics and of anesthesiology, perioperative and pain medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine, and former Division Chief of Palliative Care and Critical Care Medicine at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Stanford and Stanford Children’s Health.

Dr. Anand received his medical degree from the University of Indore, India in 1981 and a D.Phil. in Clinical Research from the University of Oxford, UK in 1986. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in anesthesiology at Harvard Medical School, followed by pediatric residency training at Boston Children’s Hospital and pediatric critical care fellowship training at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Anand served as the Morris and Hettie Oakley Chair in Critical Care Medicine at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences from 2001-2009. From 2009-2014 he held the St. Jude Chair of Critical Care Medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. His interdisciplinary research contributions are documented in over 250 archival journal and conference publications. He has published more than 250 peer-reviewed articles on pain and stress in infants and children. Dr. Anand is the recipient of the 2009 Nils Rosein von Rosenstein Medal from the Swedish Society of Medicine and Swedish Pediatric Society, the highest international award in the field of pediatrics, and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Salute to Greatness Individual Award in 2008, among others.

Behnood Gholami, PhD

Co-Founder and CEO

Dr. Behnood Gholami is the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Autonomous Healthcare. He served as the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Autonomous Healthcare from 2013-2015.

Dr. Gholami’s work in developing smart algorithms to address current challenges in critical care has appeared extensively in the literature including a feature article in the IEEE Spectrum. He has served as the principal investigator on numerous grants and contracts sponsored by the US Army, Defense Health Agency, National Science Foundation, and National Institutes of Health.

Dr. Gholami was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Associated Researcher at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard from 2011-2012. Prior to Harvard, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Georgia Tech. Dr. Gholami received the PhD degree in aerospace engineering from Georgia Tech in 2010, where his doctoral dissertation focused on the problem of closed-loop control of cardiopulmonary management and intensive care unit sedation. Dr. Gholami completed a Graduate Certificate Program in Engineering Entrepreneurship at the College of Management, Georgia Tech in 2010.

Wassim M. Haddad, PhD

Co-Founder, Chairman of the Board, and Chief Scientific Advisor

Dr. Wassim M. Haddad is the Co-Founder, Chairman of the Board, and Chief Scientific Advisor of Autonomous Healthcare. From August 2012 to June 2015 he served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of Autonomous Healthcare.

Dr. Haddad holds the David Lewis Professor of Dynamical Systems and Control in the School of Aerospace Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He has authored or coauthored over 600 archival journal and conference publications as well as seven textbooks and monographs in the areas of science, mathematics, medicine, and engineering. His monograph, Nonnegative and Compartmental Dynamical Systems (Princeton University Press, 2010), provides the theoretical foundations for closed-loop control in clinical pharmacology. Dr. Haddad’s adaptive control algorithms for intraoperative anesthesia have been used in clinical studies involving over 50 subjects to control the level of anesthesia with excellent regulation. Dr. Haddad is a National Science Foundation Presidential Faculty Fellow, a member of the Academy of Nonlinear Sciences, and an IEEE Fellow for contributions to robust, nonlinear, and hybrid control systems.

James M. Bailey, MD, PhD

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. James M. Bailey is the Chief Medical Officer of Autonomous Healthcare and the Medical Director of Critical Care at the Northeast Georgia Physicians Group, Gainesville, GA.

Dr. Bailey in collaboration with Dr. Haddad pioneered the use of adaptive control technology for controlling the depth of anesthesia in clinical studies involving more than 50 patients. His work on the role of feedback control theory in clinical pharmacology is widely recognized in the scientific community.

Formerly, Dr. Bailey served as the Chief Medical Informatics Officer and the Chief Medical Officer of the Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainesville, GA. He has more than 30 years of experience in anesthesiology and critical care medicine. Dr. Bailey was the Co-Director of the North Georgia Critical Care Collaborative, which involved a joint effort between a number of hospitals in Georgia to improve the delivery of critical care in the North Georgia region. This collaborative was awarded a $10.7 million Health Care Innovations Award from the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
